Alaska’s Naknek River Fishing: Visit the Naknek River in June or July to catch the might King Salmon. These magnificent fish average 25 lbs and it is not uncommon to catch Kings 50 lbs or larger. From mid June to late July we will also have the plentiful Sockeye Salmon entering the river at over 1 million per year. Trout fishing opens June 7 on the Naknek River and is excellent fishing as they feed on the outmigrating Salmon smolt. August and September brings the fighting Silver Salmon. Pound for pound these are the best fighting Salmon. Trout fishing remains excellent through mid October.
